This March the Dover Public Library will host an Escape Room based on the Harry Potter franchise. Sessions will run March 28, March 29, March 30, April 1, April 2 and April 5. Limited time slots have been scheduled for all dates. More sessions may become available as interest in the event rises.

The experience is intended for participants age 8 and up. Teams of two to four people as well as families are encouraged. Registration is required. Interested patrons are invited to call the library at 330-343-6123 for more information or to select their time slot.

Participants at this event will be “locked” in the library’s board room, transformed for the event into a room in Hogwarts Castle. Teams will have to find clues and solve puzzles to escape. Each team will get half an hour to solve the final riddle. The team with the fastest time will win a special grand prize to share. All participants will be entered to win one of four raffle prizes.

While teams are waiting for their turn at the Escape Room, games, snacks and other activities will be available in the teen room.

“We’re working very hard to create puzzles that will challenge our participants in fun and clever ways,” said library assistant Mallory Thompson, one of the team planning the event. “We’re still working on most of the details, but so far I can tease that there will be letters from Hogwarts, potions and runes.”

Interested patrons also should be aware of three guidelines for the Escape Room event. First, participants under the age of 10 should be accompanied by at least one adult. Also, snacks will not be permitted in the Harry Potter Room. Finally, as this is a multi-night event, teams are asked to keep the contents of the Escape Room an absolute secret from other teams.

“We’ve already been blown away by the interest in this special event for tweens, teens and families,” teen/outreach services manager Liz Strauss said. “We hope to accommodate as many teams as we can for our first Escape Room at the Dover Public Library and look forward to planning more events like this one in the future.”

This free Escape Room experience is sponsored by a 21st Century Afterschool Learning Grant with Dover High School, which provides funds for educational and fun activities taking place outside the classroom.

The Dover Public Library is located at 525 N. Walnut St. in Dover, across the street from Dover High School. For more information visit www.doverlibrary.org.
