Local writers win awards

The Dark Sire, an international quarterly literary magazine published in New Philadelphia, recently held its inaugural Creative Awards.

Finalists and nominees for awards represented the U.S., Canada, The United Kingdom and Australia. Of those up for awards, three writers are from Ohio.

John Kiste of New Philadelphia won the Fiction Award for “Kettering Hall,” a short Gothic tale from Issue 2. The award was presented via video by best-selling and award-winning author and owner of Cemetery Dance Magazine Richard Chizmar.

S.M. Cook of New Philadelphia won the Serialization Award for “Kyuuketsuki,” a novel about a female Japanese vampire warrior from Issue 1-4.

Brenda Stephens of New Philadelphia won the Audience Choice Award in the Serialization category for “Vampyre Paladin,” a novel about a doctor who investigates a string of vampire attacks leading to the deaths of several children.
