Longenecker to host Harvest Festival

The rib cookoff and lunch stand will feature barbecued ribs by local grill masters with baked beans, noodles, apple sauce and coleslaw.

Longenecker Evangelical Anabaptist Fellowship, 2200 Township Road 606, near Winesburg, will host its annual auction and Harvest Festival on Saturday, Sept. 14.

Everyone is invited to join for the day. Back for a second year will be a Barbecue Rib Cookoff by mostly backyard grillers. Attendees can enjoy the food and vote for their favorite. There will be at least nine grillers. Last year, top to bottom, there was less than a 25-vote difference.

The events scheduled include breakfast of all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage, sausage gravy with biscuits, and corn mush from 7-11 a.m.

A bake sale will be held at 7 a.m. until sold out.

A car show with prizes awarded in various categories and Best of Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come and pick out your favorite car.

The children’s auction with bidding by children with a parent will take place at 10:30 a.m.

The Rib Cookoff and lunch stand featuring barbecue ribs by local grill masters with baked beans, noodles, apple sauce or coleslaw will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There also will be a stand with hot dogs. Back again will be homemade ice cream and apple dumplings.

A concert by Merlin and Friends (Merlin Gingerich from LEAF) will be at 11:30 a.m.

The main auction (watch for updates of auction items on the church’s Facebook page, Longenecker Evangelical Anabaptist Fellowship) will take place at 1 p.m.

The raffle drawing — gift card from Dutchman Hospitality covering a seven-night stay at the Carlisle Inn Sarasota and two round-trip bus tickets; Ravin Crossbow; and five-piece poly dining set with table, four chairs and umbrella — will take place at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 or six for $50. There also will be three themed baskets with raffle tickets at $1 or six for $5.

All proceeds from this festival benefit the Longenecker building fund and a local family in need.

Sunday worship will be at 10 a.m. The worship team of the LEAF will present the theme, “The Heart of Worship.”
