Pomerene Hospital and LifeCare hosted an open house for their new hospice suite on Dec. 19. This remodeled area will improve the ability of families to visit and spend time together while providing a peaceful environment for patients.

Staff from both LifeCare and Pomerene, the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce, community members, and members of the Pomerene board of trustees attended the ceremony.

“I do think this is a partnership that will go on a long time,” said Kurt Holmes, executive director of Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare.

Pomerene Hospital and LifeCare Hospice have been longstanding partners in providing end-of-life care for the greater Holmes County area. This partnership provides short-term symptom relief and peace of mind for patients, families and loved ones while remaining close to home.

The suite features a patient room, waiting area and a family area with a large dining table. The furniture, decor and finishings establish a home-like feeling.

“It is important to give patients and their loved ones an area to gather, cry, laugh and spend time together in a comfortable environment,” said Tracy Smith, clinical and operational excellence at Pomerene Hospital.

“We are pleased to be able to work together to meet this need in the community,” Pomerene Hospital CEO Jason Justus said.

Pomerene would like to extend thanks to Homestead Furniture and Friendtique for their contributions to this project.
