A committee of Scarf Project volunteers met Dec. 3 to review the questionnaires that had been received from individuals and groups wanting to take over the Scarf Project. The decision was made for Aimee Rufener and Jeremy Sell with the support of The Hill to take over the project.

Toni Kaltenbaugh, founder and coordinator since its inception in October 2016, will work with them for 2025 scarf season. She will retire following Scarf Day 2025.

“I would like to thank all of those who have made the Scarf Project a success,” Kaltenbaugh said. “We have helped warm so many individuals because of our team of volunteers who have done everything from printing tags, making scarves, sorting and matching hats and scarves to hanging the scarves, hats and gloves. I would also like to thank all of those individuals who have donated yarn and supplies in order for the scarves to be made.

“Thank you to all the businesses who have permitted us to hang our scarves at their locations and Coulter’s for the use of their heated garage to tag and match scarves. I feel really blessed because so many individuals have contributed in so many different ways. And a huge thank you to the media that has supported us. Without all of you, none of this would have been possible.

I would also like to thank those who took the time to interview and submit a questionnaire to take over the project. The whole process has been a bit overwhelming, and I’m grateful for each of you. I’m also grateful for a supportive committee. I could not have done this without them.”

Kaltenbaugh will continue to accept yarn donations on the back porch of 730 Tuscarawas Ave. NW in New Philadelphia until Aimee Rufener, Jeremy Sell and The Hill have their donation locations solidified. Or call Rufener at 330-340-0474 for another drop-off location.

Kaltenbaugh will continue to deliver yarn and pick up finished products for those needing that service at this time. Call her at 330-432-1930 to arrange a time for pickup or delivery.
