Next health department pop-up food pantry is July 8
The Wayne County Health Department has been collaborating with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank for one year, hosting a monthly pop-up food pantry. During that time, over 1,200 families that needed food received it.
As the collaboration continues into its second year, the next one is set for Tuesday, July 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the WCHD's offices at 244 W. South St. in Wooster. This pantry will again be market-style like last month. Assistance will be available for those who have mobility issues.
“We really value our partnership with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank this past year and will continue the partnership as long as people still are in need,” said Dr. Nicholas Cascarelli, Wayne County health commissioner. “Over the past 12 months, we have supplied food to several hundred families and several thousands of Wayne County residents.”
Individuals and families can receive food if their income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level ($30,120 per year for individuals and adding $10,760 per year for each additional family member). For example, a family of four whose annual household income is $62,400 or less would be eligible.
The health department asks that anyone attending the food pantry not park in the United Way or Wayne Center for the Arts parking lots. They need those parking spots for their clients, employees and visitors. Attendees can park in the lot between the health department and the United Way.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the pop-up pantry can call the Wayne County Health Department at 330-264-9590 ext. 207.
