OHSAA releases 2023 baseball tourney brackets
The Ohio High School Athletic Association held its draw on May 7 for the upcoming baseball postseason tournament.
Here’s where area teams landed:
West Holmes, the 11th seed in the Division II East 2 District, will open at No. 7 River View in a sectional final on May 16. In WH’s half of the bracket is No. 5 Cambridge while No. 1 Indian Valley is in the other half.
District semifinals will be May 22 and the final on May 24, all at a to-be-determined location.
Hiland is the top seed in the Div. IV East District and will open at home against the winner of No. 14 Malvern and No. 16 Beallsville in a sectional semifinal on May 15. With a win the Hawks will host either No. 9 Bishop Rosecrans or No. 17 Tuscarawas Central Catholic in a sectional final on May 17. In Hiland’s half of the bracket is No. 3 Toronto while No. 2 Steubenville Catholic Central is in the other half.
District semifinals will be May 22 and the final on May 24, all at a to-be-determined location.
Garaway, seeded third in the Div. III East District, will host No. 13 Union Local in a sectional semifinal on May 15. If the Pirates win, they will host either No. 7 Barnesville or No. 9 Tusky Valley in a sectional final on May 17. In Garaway’s half of the bracket is No. 1 Fort Frye while No. 2 Buckeye Trail is in the other half.
District semifinals will be May 22 and the final on May 24, all at a to-be-determined location.
In Div. I, Wooster, seeded fourth in the Northeast 4 District, will open at home against the winner of No. 18 Normandy and No. 34 Maple Heights in a sectional final on May 18. In Wooster’s half of the bracket is No. 9 Broadview Heights while No. 1 St. Ignatius is in the other half.
District semifinals will be May 23 and the final on May 25, all at Brookside Reservation in Cleveland.
In the Div. II Northeast 3 District, Norwayne is seeded fourth and will host the winner of No. 17 Norton and No. 33 Springfield in a sectional final on May 17. In Norwayne’s half of the bracket is No. 7 Woodridge while No. 3 Mentor Lake Catholic is in the other half.
District semifinals will be May 22 and the final on May 24, all at Dodge Intermediate School in Twinsburg.
In the Div. II Northeast 5 District, Orrville is seeded 19th and will open at No. 15 Coventry in a sectional final on May 17. In Orrville’s half of the bracket is No. 2 Elyria Catholic while No. 5 Lutheran West is in the other half.
District semifinals will be May 22 and the final on May 24, all at North Ridgeville High School.
The Div. III Northeast District includes local teams No. 1 Triway, No. 3 Waynedale, No. 17 Northwestern, No. 18 Chippewa, No. 19 Tuslaw and No. 20 Smithville.
In the Northeast 3 District, Waynedale will host the winner of No. 24 Brooklyn and No. 25 Cleveland Bard Early College in a sectional final on May 17. The upper portion of the bracket also features Smithville opening on the road at No. 10 Wellington in a sectional semifinal on May 15. With a win the Smithies will play either No. 9 Beachwood or No. 23 Clearview in a sectional final at a to-be-determined location on May 17.
In the bottom portion of the bracket, Chippewa will open on the road at No. 13 Rootstown in a sectional semifinal on May 15. The winner will advance to play at No. 4 Chagrin Falls in a sectional final on May 17. Northwestern will open at No. 11 Mogadore in a sectional semifinal on May 15, with the winner advancing to play at No. 5 Black River in a sectional final on May 17.
District semifinals will be May 22 and the final on May 24, all at Norwayne High School.
In the Northeast 4 District, Triway will host the winner of No. 15 Fairless and No. 16 Cuyahoga Heights in a sectional final on May 17. Tuslaw will open on the road at No. 12 Mapleton in a sectional semifinal on May 15, with the winner advancing to play at No. 7 Canton Central Catholic in a sectional final on May 17.
The upper portion of the bracket features No. 2 Manchester and No. 6 Independence.
District semifinals will be May 22 and the final on May 24, all at Cuyahoga Community College in Parma.
In the Div. IV Northeast 3 District, No. 2 Hillsdale will host the winner of No. 7 Central Christian and No. 10 Oberlin in a sectional final on May 18. The upper portion of the bracket also features No. 4 Loudonville hosting No. 5 Rittman in a sectional final on May 18.
In the bottom portion of the bracket, No. 1 Dalton will host the winner of No. 8 Cornerstone Christian and No. 9 Andrews Osborne in a sectional final on May 18. Dalton’s half of the bracket also features No. 3 Columbia.
District semifinals will be May 23 and the final on May 25, all at Medina High School.
