Letter to the Editor:

Rich Cordray has always stood up for working people in Ohio. As state treasurer, he protected taxpayer funds and helped thousands of Ohioans save their homes from foreclosure. As Ohio attorney general, he held Wall Street accountable, recovering $2 billion for taxpayers and retirees. As our nation’s consumer watchdog, he stood up for all Americans, getting back $12 billion for 30 million people who were cheated or mistreated.

When Cordray was attorney general, the backlog of untested rape kits came to light in the last five months of his term, and Rich acted swiftly and quickly. He put critical processes in place to tackle the rape kit backlog including establishing the foundational measures for the first statewide, uniform process for testing rape kits — a system that is now used in every police station across Ohio — and doubling the number of robotic testing equipment to reduce the time to clear the backlog.

Our current leaders in Columbus have turned a blind eye to corruption and seem a world away from our communities here. We need a fighter like Rich Cordray who is willing to stand up to special interests and get us back on track.

Cordray also has the vision we need to make Ohio stronger. He is steadily focused on the kitchen-table issues that keep us up at night. He will support the small businesses that create decent jobs, he will protect the Medicaid expansion that keeps our health care affordable and accessible, and he will invest in education and training so all Ohioans have the skills they need for the good jobs they deserve.

Rich Cordray and Betty Sutton will work to make sure we are all treated fairly and will give our families the freedom to pursue a better life.

I am proud to support Rich and Betty, and I encourage you all to vote for them on Nov. 6.
