Letter to the Editor:

We have a new nickname: “the mob.” In other words Republicans are trying to persuade Americans to stop believing in democracy.

The GOP’s effort to undermine democracy is clearly seen in conservative defenses of the Electoral College, which twice in 16 years has delivered the White House to a Republican candidate who lost the popular vote.

To justify such undemocratic results, conservatives have taken to warning about “the tyranny of the majority,” a nicer term for “mob rule.” The Founders were very serious in designing government that was responsive to its citizens.

Two years ago Trump supporters who once called themselves the “Tea Party” turned up at polling places. Trump urged crowds to punch protesters who showed at his campaign. Now the threat of majority rule has Trumpists up a tree.

McConnell expressed horror at the “mob-like tactics” of sexual-assault victims who confronted 44 percent GOP senators over the Kavanaugh nomination and pushed through a Supreme Court justice nominated by an unpopular minority president and mistrusted by majorities in opinion polls.

Nothing like that has happened before. And now it may have finalized the evolution of the Supreme Court into a wholly partisan institution, so dangerous to the rule of law.

King Donald doesn’t know the law because he is illiterate; therefore he doesn’t realize or doesn’t give a hoot about the damage he is doing to the country. He lives in his own world, a world of greed and hate.

We can take this energy and this rage and channel it into change by voting on Tuesday, Nov. 6 for Cordray, Palmer, Sutton, Dettelbach, Space, Clyde, Richardson, Brown, VanHo, Barnet, Mackey, Donnelly, Stewart and Colavecchio.
