The American Red Cross Lake Erie/Heartland Chapter announced the annual Festival of Trees, sponsored by the Akron Brass Company, will be held Tuesday, Dec. 3 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Shisler Conference Center, 1625 Wilson Road, Wooster. The event helps raise funds for the Red Cross to help residents who are affected by disasters like home fires and flooding in Ashland, Holmes, Richland and Wayne counties.

“We support the American Red Cross and their mission, which is to prevent and alleviate human suffering,” said Chris Davis, the Festival of Trees honorary co-chair. “I think of them as the number-one second responder, right after police and fire, our first responders. Your contribution to help stays here for local disaster services and programs.”

The Festival of Trees, a local holiday event since 1990, has generated funds for local Red Cross disaster relief for families experiencing home fires, floods or tornadoes.

The fundraising event features decorated holiday trees, wreaths, centerpieces and baskets donated by local artisans and decorators. The holiday decorations will be auctioned at the event.

Local companies also have donated items for the auction such as a ride for two on the Goodyear blimp and a trip to Disney World.

This year the Red Cross will offer a family-friendly preview event, which is open to the public, on Dec. 2 from 4-8 p.m. The preview will give everyone a firsthand look at all auction items. The night will include a visit from Santa Claus, a cookie workshop for the kids and entertainment.

If interested in being a designer for the event, call the Red Cross office in Wooster at 330-264-9383. Limited space is available.
