Scurti joins OMEGA economic team
Jeannette M. Wierzbicki, P.E., executive director of Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association, recently announced the addition of Evan Scurti as senior development specialist.
Scurti began his tenure with OMEGA in August. He completed his undergrad studies at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, in addition to earning a Master of City and Regional Planning from the Ohio State University.
Scurti also has been a certified economic developer through the International Economic Development Council since 2009. His previous experience includes serving as the first executive director of the Jefferson County Port Authority and engaging in various consulting contracts to assist Appalachian communities.
“Evan is a wonderful addition to our staff and has already demonstrated his dedication to serving the communities of our region through his previous endeavors,” Wierzbicki said. “His economic development background will be a tremendous asset in his new position as senior development specialist.”
Scurti’s hiring was made possible through a large federal grant earlier this year to a team consisting of OMEGA, Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Public Affairs and the Buckeye Hills Regional Council. Known as the Resilience Initiative for Southeastern and Eastern Ohio, the grant is allowing the three organizations to hire several contractors and employees to strengthen planning and technical assistance services throughout Appalachia.
Scurti will focus on opportunity zone planning and economic development grant writing assistance to communities throughout OMEGA’s 10-county region.
“It’s an exciting time to be an economic developer,” Scurti said. “Communities throughout the OMEGA region are working very hard to restructure, invest in infrastructure upgrades and prepare for new economic growth. I am honored to be part of the OMEGA team as we work alongside local leaders to pursue the resources necessary to position our entire region for economic success.”
Scurti can be called at 740-439-4471 ext. 202 or emailed at escurti@omegadistrict.org.
OMEGA’s mission is to provide a pathway to enhance community and economic growth in the region, and it serves 10 counties in Eastern Ohio: Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Guernsey, Harrison, Holmes, Jefferson, Muskingum and Tuscarawas.
