Pegasus Farm is one of the largest, most programmatically diverse therapeutic equestrian centers in the United States and has received a grant from the Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation.

                        

The trustees of the Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation have approved grants totaling $172,000 to 10 nonprofit organizations and nine schools for the September grant cycle.

The foundation supports programs that promote the physical and mental well-being of the people residing in Holmes, Stark, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties.

The foundation provides $43,000 in scholarships to students engaged in health-related studies at Aultman College, Kent State University Stark, Kent State University Tuscarawas, Malone University, Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, Stark State College, University of Akron Wayne College, University of Mount Union and Walsh University.

Those receiving grants include:

Beacon Charitable Pharmacy, Canton, $25,000, operations assistance to provide medications for the uninsured/underinsured; Community Action, Wooster, $5,000, medical transportation out-of-county; Community Harvest, Canton, $10,000, trucking and operations support; ICAN Housing, Canton, $9,000, furnish a community room; JRC, Canton, $15,000, adult day center wellness clinic; Love Center Food Pantry, Millersburg, $7,600, food for their food pantry; Pegasus Farm, Hartville, $40,000, Military Family Center operations; Perry Helping Perry, Massillon, $5,000, food pantry cooler; Pomerene Hospital, Millersburg, $2,400, infant breastfeeding program; and Stark State College, North Canton, $15,250, dental hygiene clinic upgrade.

The foundation has two grant cycles each year and welcomes grant requests that are health and wellness related. It is suggested nonprofit organizations call the foundation office first to discuss their project or program. The deadline for submitting requests for the next cycle is Dec. 3.
