United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties announced the release of its 2020 Request for Proposals for the annual community grant-funding process they host each year.

This year United Way will offer grants totaling $750,000, which will be available for request through Dec. 31. UWWH stands upon its mission of mobilizing community resources to measurably improve the lives of people in the communities it serves in Wayne and Holmes counties. It does this by uniting community partners through the grant-funding process each year.

The grants are then vetted by a group of community members and United Way donors who sit on the committees that review the applications and proceed to recommend funding to the UWWH board of directors. Last year 23 organizations and 40 programs were funded through this process.

In part with its mission, United Way has chosen to invest in quality programs in Wayne and Holmes counties that seek to improve the lives of low-income residents. The four areas of focus UWWH has carefully considered are health/mental-health/substance-abuse treatment, safety net, workforce development and youth development.

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements in order to apply:

—Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit currently registered with the secretary of state of Ohio; a governmental organization such as a public education institution, voluntary association or faith-based community; or run by a volunteer board of directors, none of whom receives any remuneration from the organization.

—Currently provides services in Wayne and/or Holmes counties.

—Programs must serve residents living at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty limit in Wayne or Holmes county and be aligned with at least one of the four focuses, as mentioned above.
