At the May 14 meeting of the Lawrence Township trustees, members heard from Bolivar fire chief Shawn Lynch regarding water-pressure issues in Wilkshire Hills near the water tower.

The issue came to the forefront after a fire destroyed a home on Meadow Square Northeast on Easter. Fire department efforts were hampered by low water pressure from a nearby hydrant. Lynch said he will work with the county water department to determine which hydrants may be problematic in order to help prevent future issues.

In other business, trustees tackled the ongoing issue of illegal dumping on two properties in the township. Zoning inspector Ron Weekley is working with litter deputies to advise the offenders dumping on Welton Road and Ft. Laurens Road to clean up the properties or face possible further legal action.

Weekley also told trustees he had been in touch with the prosecutor’s office regarding the Wilkshire Hills car wash destroyed in fire. Weekley will send a letter to the owners giving them a date by which to either repair or tear down the building, which has become a local eyesore. If the owners do not respond, further action may be taken.

Signs have been installed at the basketball courts at River Community Park, advising those using the courts to practice social distancing. Trustees were notified trash has been left on the courts by people using them. Trustees want to leave the courts open, but if the trash continues to be an issue, the courts will be closed.

A reminder was issued the township is still taking applications for summer help. Those interested should call the Lawrence Township office at 330-874-2731.

The next meeting will be Thursday, May 28 at 7 p.m. at Charles E. Lundenberger Hall at 10867 Industrial Parkway NW in Bolivar.
