WCHS holding Presidents Day event
The Wayne County Historical Society will hold a Presidents Day program on Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Historical Society schoolhouse, 546 E. Bowman St., Wooster. The program is free to attend.
The program will feature Raylene Hlavaty as former First Lady Abigail Adams, one of the most accomplished women of the revolutionary era and the wife of John Adams, a leader in the American Revolution and the second president of the United States. In her many surviving letters, Adams was outspoken in her opinions on the issues of her day, and correspondence with her husband reveals a marriage of mutual love and respect. Her life intertwines with key events of the War for Independence, and her sacrifices supported the founding of the nation.
Hlavaty has enjoyed singing and acting since childhood, which prompted her mother to enroll her in the Wayne Center for the Arts Youth Theater program a few summers in a row. She graduated from Triway in 1988 and Ohio State in 1992 with a B.A. in English. During her high school years, she was active in The Friends of J.C., a skit and juggling team created by her brother Lance Weirick.
She became interested in history after college when she viewed a video of David Barton recounting the story of the bullet holes left in George Washington’s coat after the Battle of Monongahela in the French and Indian War. Since then she has been busy searching out the workings of God in history. She is married to Mike Hlavaty and retired from home-schooling their three boys. Visit www.timelessvoicesohio.com for more information on this and other programs offered by Hlavaty.
There is parking for the event on-site — enter from the Spink Street entrance — and along the fence in the Drug Mart parking lot. For more information about the Wayne County Historical Society, visit waynehistoricalohio.org.
