49th Antiques and Artisans Show coming to Zoar
The 49th annual Zoar Antiques and Artisans Show will bring nearly 60 of the nation’s premier antiques dealers and 30 nationally recognized artisans to town.
The 49th annual Zoar Antiques and Artisans Show will bring nearly 60 of the nation’s premier antiques dealers and 30 nationally recognized artisans to town, according to Tammi Shrum, site director for Historic Zoar Village.
The show will take place Saturday, July 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and free for kids age 12 and under.
“Each year we draw a higher and higher caliber of antiques dealers and artisans,” Shrum said. “It’s really a wonderful show.”
The antiques tent will feature country, folk, primitive and Americana antiques. Furniture, textiles, art and pottery will be among the items offered under the artisans tent.
“The admission ticket includes entry into the antiques and artisans tents, all activities, and tours of our historic buildings,” Shrum said. “We are going to try to have all of them open with docents inside including in the Zoar Hotel lobby.”
Visitors to the buildings can see 19th-century cooking and laundry methods in action, along with other demonstrations.
A juried selection of vendors selling hand-crafted goods, museum tours, horse-drawn wagon rides and a beer tent featuring live music and craft brews from Lockport Brewery also will be on tap for both days.
There will be plenty of food choices from the Zoar United Church of Christ and the Church of the Holy Trinity booths, as well as Donnie’s Tavern. Homemade ice cream, lemonade and kettle corn also will be on the menu. The Zoar Bakery will be open, selling bread, cookies and other baked-from-scratch goodies.
Antique car show
The Canton chapter of the Antique Automobile will hold a car show on Sunday with a focus on antique, special interest and custom cars. Winners will be determined by a People’s Choice vote with the top-10 receiving trophies. One additional winner will be selected by members of the auto club.
Registration is $10 per vehicle and will begin at 10:30 a.m. Registration includes admission to the entire event. Car show hours will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Car owners with questions should call Joe Gagliano at 330-806-6084.
Descendants gather on Sunday
A gathering for descendants of the original German families who settled Zoar will take place Sunday from 2-4 p.m. on the Sewing House lawn. The gathering will be hosted by Scott Gordon, who is the mayor of Zoar and also a descendant.
Other activities and information
The Tuscarawas County Arts Guild will have a tent of its own featuring the work of local artists. A number of nonprofit organizations also will be present with information and activities.
The Zoar Store will be open for shopping, as will the Stars of Zoar artisans co-op and some privately owned antique shops.
Visitors should be aware two of the village’s parking lots are closed due to ongoing repair work to the Zoar Levee. Parking will be available in the grassy areas off of Fifth and Seventh streets.
Shrum said special plans are shaping up for the show’s 50th anniversary in 2023 including the addition of a venue for mid-century and modern antiques.
Upcoming August Speaker Series
On Aug. 6 Peggy Clemens Lauritzen will lead a free workshop on how to use census records for genealogy. A graduate of Brigham Young University, Lauritzen is an accredited genealogist and a frequent lecturer at historical societies and similar organizations. The workshop will begin at 11 a.m. in the Zoar School House.
