The Dover Public Library will host a Meet the Author event featuring New York Times bestselling author Linda Castillo on Saturday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m. Castillo will discuss her latest book in the Kate Burkholder Amish Mystery Series, “Shamed.”

In this thriller a murder exposes an Amish family’s tortured past. The peaceful Ohio town of Painters Mill is shattered when an Amish grandmother is brutally murdered on an abandoned farm.

When Chief of Police Kate Burkholder arrives on the scene, she learns the woman’s 7-year-old granddaughter is gone, abducted in plain sight. Kate knows time is against her. The longer the girl is missing, the less likely her safe return becomes.

The girl’s family is a pillar of the Amish community, well-respected by all. But Kate soon realizes they’re keeping secrets, and the sins of their past may be coming back to haunt them.

“It is very exciting to host Linda the week her newest book is released to the public,” library director Jim Gill said. “Linda has been a true friend of our library, and we are so excited to have her back once again. We feel her thrillers are so popular with local readers because Linda sets them in Ohio’s Amish Country. We know the place names and can admire how Linda nails Ohio’s Amish culture.”

Like the other 10 books in the series, “Shamed” is set in the fictional Holmes County town of Painters Mill, Ohio. Originally from Ohio where her Amish thrillers are set, Castillo knew from an early age she wanted to be a writer and penned her first novel at the age of 13.

Refreshments and a book-signing will follow the program, which is free and open to all. Copies of all of Castillo’s books will be available for purchase.
