The Tuscarawas County Public Library System will host a number of programs that will promote well-being and relaxation with county residents.

“We like to offer a wide variety of programs throughout the year that are responsive to the needs of our customers,” library director Michelle McMorrow Ramsell said. “This time of the year is perfect to introduce some programs geared toward helping us relax.”

Program offerings will include a new Coloring and Coffee Club at the Main Library in New Philadelphia, a tai chi series at the Strasburg branch, and a mindfulness series at the Bolivar branch.

Beginning Jan. 3 at 6:30 p.m., the Coloring and Coffee Club met at the Main Library at 121 Fair Ave. NW in New Philadelphia. Coffee and tea are provided as well as all coloring sheets and supplies. This program will continue on Feb. 7, March 7 and April 4, all at 6:30 p.m.

Three Fridays in a row — Jan. 18 and 25 and Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. — adults are invited to attend the Tai Chi: Meditation in Motion series hosted at the Strasburg branch, 356 Fifth St. SW. This series will teach the basics of this exercise and help improve balance, strength and flexibility.

“We have found our exercise classes to be very popular at our location,” Strasburg branch supervisor Emily Crilley said. “Tai chi is a great way to relieve stress and stay moving in the winter months.”

Crilley also said attendees will have the option to use a chair during the tai chi programs if standing for long periods or balance is an issue.

Beginning Jan. 22 at 6 p.m., the Bolivar branch, 455 W. Water St., will welcome Chris Kendle from the OSU Extension office to teach a series on mindfulness. This series will equip participants with skills to strengthen the mind and body connection and promote holistic health and wellness across their entire lifespan. The program will take place Jan. 22, Feb. 26, March 26 and April 30, all beginning at 6 p.m. Topics in this series will include mindful foundations, mindful breathing, mindful eating and mindful living.
