Local author Sines is holding Nov. 7 event
The estimated percentage of novels published traditionally — that is not self-published and not via a paid service — is widely thought to be in the single digits. Wooster resident Dottie Sines devoted years toward the effort, resulting in her first novel, “Where the Stars Cross,” being published in September by New York-based The Wild Rose Press.
On Nov. 7 at The College of Wooster, Sines will speak about her journey including what she’s learned about the art of fiction writing, how to approach literary agents and publishers, and what not to do.
“Where the Stars Cross” is set during the Great Depression in the Chicago area and Marietta, Ohio. The book is available for sale in both print and e-book and by many retailers worldwide including Amazon, where it spent two months on the list of Hot New Releases in 20th Century Historical.
Sines manages the interlibrary loan department at The College of Wooster and serves on the board of the Wayne County Historical Society. She has contributed to various newspapers and magazines and has won multiple awards for her work including having been honored twice in recent years as one of 10 finalists in the short story contest of the Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park, which published her award-winning stories in the third and fifth editions of its literary journal, “Hemingway Shorts.”
The event, which is open to the public, will take place from 4-6 p.m. in the CoRE Cube inside Andrews Library, 1140 Beall Ave. Following an approximately half-hour presentation and a period of answering questions, the author will be available to sign copies of her book. Guests are encouraged to stop in at any time during the two-hour period.
