Michael’s Bakery in Orrville adds coffee bar
Michael’s Bakery in Orrville now offers a full-service coffee and espresso bar.
Michael’s Bakery has long been an Orrville institution for doughnuts, cookies and other pastries.
Recently, Michael’s has expanded its traditional offerings to include a full-service coffee and espresso bar. Now you can pair your doughnut with a cafe mocha, a latte or a cappuccino, along with other espresso drinks offered.
Some of the updates to the menu that have taken place over the course of the last year or so have been the brainchild of new owners Kyle Simmons and Grant Smucker, both Orrville natives who purchased the longtime business in April 2023 after the previous owner and co-founder Cathy Brown retired.
The coffee bar idea came about as a way to update and complement the signature doughnuts and welcoming atmosphere and traditions established by Michael’s original owners.
Smucker said, “We’ve focused on blending the best of both worlds: keeping what makes Michael’s a beloved staple while introducing fresh new flavors and experiences for our customers.”
The monthly specials are another example of a concept that has really taken off.
Smucker said, “We’ve introduced a monthly special that changes each month, mostly featuring exciting new doughnut flavors, but we are considering expanding this concept to other pastries as well. The response to our monthly special has been fantastic.”
Some of the monthly doughnut highlights have been the Galaxy Donut, which was featured during the solar eclipse last year, and the Buckeye Donut, which runs during the month of the Ohio State vs Michigan game.
Smucker was quick to point out both he and Simmons are Ohio State grads.
Michael’s also has made some other changes in menu items.
Smucker said, “We’ve also recently upgraded our muffins, introducing a larger size and a wider variety of flavors. You can now grab a four-pack variety pack or you can purchase individual muffins, making it easier to try more options and flavors. We’re continually testing and introducing new products to keep the sweet tooths of the community satisfied and also excited.”
Simmons and Smucker are both careful to honor the success of Michael’s Bakery in their decision-making in how to continue to grow and expand Michael’s while also honoring the business’ 38-year history.
Smucker said, “As much as the two of us would love to take credit for the success of the business, it is truly our amazing team that shows up every day (even at midnight) to ensure fresh pastries are available for our customers each morning. That dedication is what makes the business the success that it is. It’s our great privilege to keep delivering the same quality and care that makes Michael’s Bakery such a beloved place for the community. Michael’s Bakery is truly an Orrville institution.”
Michael’s Bakery is located at 145 W. Market St. in Orrville. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 6 a.m. to noon and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is closed Sunday and Monday.
