Walnut Hills Nursing Home recently celebrated National Nursing Home Week with a “Radiant Memories — A Tribute to the Golden Age of Radio” theme.

Residents and team members enjoyed special menus, decorations, entertainment and activities during the week of May 12-18.

Some of the week’s activities included a “Great Gatsby” party, a movie day featuring “The Wizard of Oz,” puppy therapy, a Bible study, bread making and a historical presentation by Alice Hoover.

“Nursing Home Week is such a special time of year, as we set aside several days to celebrate our wonderful residents and dedicated team members,” said Stephanie Schwab, director of life enrichment. “There were so many smiles and much laughter as we reminisced and enjoyed the week’s activities planned around the ‘Golden Age of Radio’ theme.”

The highlight of the weeklong celebration was a Community Cookout and Cruise-In Car Show. Walnut Hills and Greencroft team members and volunteers served more than 350 people a cookout meal that featured hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, pasta salad and dessert.

The car show featured more than a dozen classic automobiles displayed in the south parking lot. The cruise-in showcased a variety of classic cars, trucks and motorcycles, thanks to local enthusiast Onley Heath and his friends.

“The weather was just perfect for the cookout and car show, and the air was filled with lots of teamwork and fun,” said Jodi Dean, director of marketing. “It was our pleasure to host residents, team members and visitors from the greater community as we celebrated the beautiful residents of our nursing home and the team members who provide outstanding care and services to the residents on a daily basis.”

As a continuing care living community, Walnut Hills Retirement Community provides independent living homes, catered living apartments, assisted living suites, skilled nursing care, inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient therapies for more than 200 individuals on its campus in Walnut Creek.
