Summary: The Wooster Community Band wrapped up its tenth season with a tribute to Broadway. The sounds of ?The Great White Way? came to Wooster on July 20 when the Wooster Community Band presented a salute to Broadway for the final of its 2011 season. In addition to a number of traditional band pieces and marches, the band presented music from some of the most beloved musicals from Broadway and the movies including ?The Music Man?, ?Mary Poppins?, ?Phantom of the Opera?, ?Pirates of the Caribbean? and ?Annie?. The 40 members of this year?s Wooster Community Band, which range in age from 11 to 90, has been in weekly rehearsals since June to prepare for a pair of free concerts presented by the Wayne County Historical Society in June and July. Originally scheduled for the front lawn of the historic Beall House on the Historical Society?s campus, the performance was moved to the St. Mary?s School gym when temperatures soared into the 90?s. The 2011 season marked the tenth year the Historical Society has sponsored the concerts presented by the Wooster Community Band, which performed under the direction of Randy Claes. The performances by the Wooster Community Band were made possible by the support of an anonymous Wayne County Historical Society donor, St. Mary?s Church, which provided the rain location for the concerts, and the College of Wooster and its director of bands Professor Nancy Ditmer, who provided rehearsal space for the band for its weekly rehearsals.
