Charges are pending against a West Holmes fifth-grade student who allegedly left a bomb threat at school. Holmes County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Sean Warner said Monday March 10 that charges are pending against a girl in the fifth grade who has been identified as the suspect in a March 6 bomb threat at Millersburg Elementary. Warner said a charge of inducing panic will likely be filed, similar to charges filed in three other bomb threats that have occurred this school year at West Holmes schools. According to Millersburg Police reports, the note was discovered in a girl’s bathroom written on a piece of paper. Millersburg Police Chief Thomas Vaughn said the threat was not deemed serious enough to evacuate the school. A search of several “unoccupied areas” was made, Vaughn said, and no explosive device was found. The school was not locked down, and parents were later notified of the situation by letter. Vaughn said school officials carried out interviews of suspects before identifying the girl. Handwriting was used in identifying the suspect, Vaughn said. “There were a couple suspects initially,” Vaughn said. “It helped that we ended up finding the the other part of the note it was ripped off from.” Vaughn said the girl has not admitted to writing the note.
