The Wayne County Schools Career Center hosted the FFA District 3 Ag and Industrial Diagnostics contest last week. Winners advance to the state contest at the University of Northwestern Lima on March 6 and 7. First place was earned by the Wayne County team of Derek Bowman of Northwestern and Cody Norris of Wooster with an overall score of 200 points. Bowman is the son of Jamie Bowman and Wendy Stine, and Norris is the son of Christina Studer of Wooster. Trumbull County Career & Technical Center took second place with a score of 173, and third place went to Mahoning County Career & Technical Center in Canfield with 165. The students took a written test, then had 20 minutes to troubleshoot tractors, skid loaders and other equipment at three stations. Area farms and farm implement dealers provided the equipment and judges: Lowe & Young Inc., Jordon Stoller; Maibach Tractor, Aaron Marty; and JN Steiner Excavating, Josh Steiner. The students competed on an AgCo compact tractor, a New Holland mid-size tractor, and a John Deere bulldozer. The contest was organized by instructor Craig Wellert, with assistance from aide Norman Beery.
