The Wooster High School Drama Club will set sail on their spring production, Mister Roberts at the Wooster High School Performing Arts Center, March 21 and 22 @ 7:30 pm and March 23 @ 2 p.m. Mister Roberts is a rowdy, realistic saga of a group of American sailors aboard a Navy cargo vessel in the middle of nowhere in the South Pacific in the waning days of World War II. The crew fights the deadly boredom that is part of the routine of war. They are lead on their voyage from “apathy to tedium and back” by a cantankerous, small-minded captain, who constantly antagonizes his crew and their real leader, Lt. j.g. Roberts. The play was written in 1948 by Josh Logan and was made into a popular film in 1955, starring Henry Fonda, James Cagney and Jack Lemmon. The original novel was written in 1946 by Thomas Heggen, based on his own real-life WWII experiences aboard the USS Virgo. As such, the play contains some language that may not be suitable for young children. Parental discretion is advised. Leading the cast will be WHS Drama Club veterans Matt Friedhoff (Roberts), Storm Nicholson (Captain), Jake Riley (Doc) and Adam Hasapis (Ensign Pulver). Sailors will be portrayed by Daniel Kirk, Zach Buchholz, Hans Qu, Bryan Parker, Tom Myers, Scott Nicholson, Connor Stermer, Trevor Shearer, Zach Stevenson, Adam Kirk, and Nick Williams. Stephanie Haught (Lt. Girard) will be joined by nurses Becca Cornelius, Hannah Doan, Helena Gastier, Becca Kreuzman, Jaryn Lindenmuth and Gracie Machado. Directing Mister Roberts are Emily Patterson and Todd Patterson, assisted by stage managers Micayla Carafelli and Taylor Williams. Technical directors are Chuck Armbruster and Mark Lehman, assisted by C. J. Krichbaum. The WHS Drama Club is proud to present the play as their contribution to the Wooster City Schools Fine Arts Festival. In honor of our local veterans, admission will be free to all those who have served or are currently serving in our country’s military. These tickets will be available, however, on a presale basis only, to avoid delays the night of the show. Presale tickets are available at the WHS Athletic Office during normal school hours beginning Monday, March 17 and will also be sold at the door the day of the event. Adult tickets are $8.00 and students and senior citizen tickets are $6.00. For ticket information, contact the Athletic Office at (330) 345-8760.
