Keim Home Center in Charm will host an Empty Bowl Fundraiser to fill the hearts and stomachs of people in the community on Monday, Feb. 28. Everyone is welcome to join for soup, to choose a wooden bowl to take home and to support a local cause.

The meal of soup and bread will be provided by the Carpenter Café at Keim Home Center from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Woodshed, where there will be wood turnings by award-winning Tom Olechiw and updates from Special Hearts Workshop in Sugarcreek and The Hope Center Food Bank in Wooster.

“We’ve got a lot of great charities in our community. We’re glad to be able to bring people together to support them,” said Abe Troyer, Keim’s executive director of sales.

Special Hearts is a registered nonprofit that helps provide people with disabilities with a safe and meaningful place of work and interaction with others.

The Hope Center Food Bank provides food, clothing, haircuts and hygiene supplies for over 3,500 families in Wooster and Wayne County.

All donations will be split between the two charities.

Woodturners are specifically needed to donate wooden bowls, which will be given to each person who attends. Creativity is encouraged but aim to turn bowls roughly 6 inches in diameter so each person can receive a similar-sized bowl.

“We hope this can be a fun way for woodturners to use their ability for a good cause,” Roy Hershberger from Keim’s Woodshed said.

Bowl donations should be brought to the Keim Woodshed by Feb. 1.

Call 330-893-2251 to RSVP by Monday, Feb. 14 if you plan to attend the event. Sign up early to reserve a bowl. Keim Home Center is located at 4465 OH-557 in Charm.
