Tuscarawas County Bridges to Wellness will host a trivia night fundraiser at Hoodletown Brewing Company on Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 4:30-10 p.m. Admission is $5 per person. Food and adult beverages will be available for purchase.

Trivia categories will change every half-hour. Topics will include history, science and Ohio sports.

Children are welcome and won’t be charged for admission. Two trivia categories are designed for kids and include youth-age questions and smarter than a fifth-grader.

Bridges to Wellness coordinator Sarah Endlich planned the event. She has previously partnered with Chipotle and Art on the Alley to raise funds for the organization and to get the word out to those who may need their services.

“I just thought it would be fun,” Endlich said of the trivia fundraiser. “I thought it was something I would personally do.”

It also was beneficial she knew the owners of the new brewery. “My friends at Hoodletown wanted to help out in the community,” she said.

Bridges to Wellness is a new program that started this past summer to help local residents utilize services provided through Access Tuscarawas. Access Tuscarawas is a directory of the many health and wellness organizations in the community.

“[Access Tuscarawas] provides the services,” Endlich said. “We get the clients to the services that already exist in the community.”

Many people who may need help can be overwhelmed by the hundreds of barriers that stand in the way of getting the help they need. Bridges to Wellness provides help navigating the various agencies to determine which plan will work best for each individual.

Aside from Endlich, who is the coordinator and reviews all referrals to determine who qualifies for the program, there also are two community health workers involved in the program. One is paid by Mediwise Pharmacy, and another is paid part-time by Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital.

The community health workers meet with clients in their homes to determine what barriers prevent them from receiving the help they need and then help them overcome those barriers by utilizing 20 core pathways. Help can include filling out forms to receive treatment, help with transportation, finding affordable health care, smoking cessation, assistance with addiction and many other things.

There are many programs to help with education, employment, clothes, diapers, food and medical bills.

“Some people just kinda bounce around and never get the help they need,” Endlich said.

The pilot program has already helped 35 individuals, and three have graduated to where they no longer need help. Five are currently pending enrollment. The goal is to be able to help 100 and to expand services to surrounding counties.

“Access Tusc has really been putting a lot of work into getting this up and running,” Endlich said.

The organization is moving into offices at 300 Medical Park Drive in Dover. “Every entity in the medical field has a presence in this,” Endlich said. “I think this is going to be really good for the county.”
