A pizza fundraiser is being held to benefit the annual Little Twist on Mineral Festival, which began after a tornado ripped through the village in July 2013, leveling the fire station and damaging other properties.

The festival began as a way for the fire department to thank the community for its support during the aftermath and the rebuilding of the station. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the disaster.

“We try to have fundraisers throughout the year to help defer the cost of putting on the festival,” said Nikki Moore, president of the festival committee, “that way we can give a nice donation to our charity of choice each year.”

Moore said the charity for this year will be the Community Hospice Truman House. Last year the festival was able to donate $3,800 to the organization. “For a one-day festival, we were just over the moon to be able to give that much,” Moore said.

Moore said the Pizza Take and Bake will help cover festival costs ranging from entertainment to the car show and advertising. “And all of our costs have increased, except for the band, the Moonlighters,” Moore said. “Steve Delaney and his whole band are just amazing guys. They said they know the festival is to raise money for charity, so they will not increase their price this year.”

One cost that has risen significantly, according to Moore, is the fireworks display. “The village typically covers the cost of the fireworks, but like any municipality, their budgets are getting pinched big time. So we as a committee decided that we will cover the increase in the cost of the fireworks.”

How to order

Pizzas are available only through presale and must be prepaid. The order deadline is Friday, March 17 with the pickup day scheduled for Saturday, March 25 at the fire station.

“We buy all the ingredients from Swiss Village Bakery in Sugarcreek,” Moore said. "Then the committee members assemble them for people to drive through, pick up and take home."

The event will feature four pizza combinations at different price points. All pizzas are 12 inches in size. Combo choices are pepperoni and cheese for $9; pepperoni and mushroom for $10; a deluxe pepperoni, sausage and mushroom for $12; or the meat lover's, which is pepperoni, sausage, bacon and ham, for $14.”

Orders can be placed on the Little Twist of Mineral Facebook page. “People can click on the QR code on our flyer, and that'll take them directly to our online payment system, where they can then place their order via the website,” Moore said.

Orders also can be called in to Moore at the number provided on the flyer, which will be posted on the festival Facebook page.

“We are truly blessed to have the Community Hospice Truman House in our county,” Moore said. “My dad went through hospice there, and I transported people there when I worked at Smith Ambulance. They are just the best.”

The Mineral City Fire Station is located at 4846 Station St. in Mineral City.
