All donations of $20 or more will be matched up to $5,000 in memory of June Hawthorne on Saturday, Dec. 18.

“This includes mail-in donations, drop-in donations at our building, donations to our virtual kettle and, of course, donations made to our red kettles,” Lt. Andrew Allen of the Tuscarawas County Salvation Army said.

The goal for this year’s campaign is $140,000, and all the donations stay in Tuscarawas County to help local families.

“We are still behind last year’s pace by about $4,000,” Allen said, adding he will be at the Walmart Kettle Stand playing the cornet for the challenge.

All the income the Salvation Army receives through the Red Kettle Campaign goes to fund the programs and services they provide throughout the year including their soup kitchen, emergency food pantry, hot shower program, after-school program, summer day camp, an archery program and more.

This year red kettles are located at Walmart, Buehler’s in New Philadelphia and Dover, Drug Mart in New Philadelphia and Dover, Rural King, Big Lots, Giant Eagle, and Mako’s Market in Uhrichsville.

Donations also can be made virtually at the Salvation Army website or on a mobile phone. The virtual kettle can be found on their Facebook page, The Dover/New Philadelphia Salvation Army, or their website at neo.salvationarmy.org/northeastohio/dover_newphiladelphia. In addition to the traditional red kettles at area stores, there are counter kettle locations throughout Dover and New Philadelphia.

The Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union is the 2021 campaign sponsor this year. Local red kettle sponsors are Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, Commercial and Savings Bank, Dover-Phila Kiwanis Club, Dover Exchange Club, ProVia, Allied Machine and Engineering, Dover Chemical, Park National Bank, and Shane and Kelsie Gunnoe.

“We’re just so thankful for the generosity of our community members and the support they’ve shown to the Salvation Army,” Allen said.
