The Tuscarawas County Health Department will conduct its second annual Flu Vaccine Drive-Thru Clinic for anyone age 3 and older on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 9 a.m. at the health department.

The event will go as long as supplies last, and like the name would suggest, those visiting won’t ever have to leave the confines of their vehicle.

The clinic began last year and proved to be an easy way for the health department to provide flu vaccines with little hassle.

“All they have to do is drive up to the health department, go to the information station to fill out a form and pay, and then drive up to the nurse’s station for their injection and they drive away,” said Amy Kaser, director of nursing at the TCHD.

The cost of the vaccine is $40 for a regular dose or $65 for the high dose, payable with cash or check. Those with insurance cards may present them when paying.

Anyone wanting to receive a flu-immunization shot for the upcoming flu season this winter needs to bring a photo ID and fill out a vaccine consent form. If anyone would like to fill out the form prior to arriving, they may do so by logging on to the health department website at www.tchdnow.org.

Kaser said while some people are afraid of needles, today’s technology has made needles so small there is very little feeling at all when getting a vaccine. She said last year they gave out more than two-dozen flu vaccines with very little advertising at all, so the hope is they will see this year’s event blossom.

“We went in last year pretty low key because we wanted to see how it would work,” Kaser said. “This year we wanted to do it around the beginning of November because the [Center for Disease Control] is suggesting that people receive the shot around that time because it will last into the peak of flu season a little bit better.”

Anyone with questions may call the health department at 330-343-5555 ext. 111.

The Tuscarawas County Health Department is located at 897 E. Iron Ave. in Dover.
