Walnut Hills Retirement Community will host its third annual ice cream extravaganza and resource fair on Thursday, July 18 from 1-4 p.m.

Visitors to the event can tour several living options on the Walnut Hills campus, gather information from almost two-dozen community resources and get samples of ice cream from five local ice cream vendors.

There will be stops at an independent living home in The Meadows, an independent living home at The Commons, assisted living suites/Evergreen Place, the therapy gym at the transitional care unit and the outdoor pavilion near assisted living.

“We are looking forward to offering tasty treats, fun and information to the community,” said Paula Miller, community relations director. “We have added more resource vendors this year, so visitors will have an opportunity to gather information from a wide variety of services and resources in the surrounding community, and each tour stop will feature a different ice cream to sample.”

Local ice cream vendors participating include Miller’s Creamery, Mudd Valley Creamery, Schloneger’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream, Smith Dairy and Troyer Market.

Several community organizations will return to participate in the resource fair this year, and some new ones have been added.

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Department will be onsite to provide a medication take-back (old prescription and over-the-counter medications), and the Pomerene Mobile Health Unit will provide free blood pressure checks and other assessments and services.

Other participating resources include Area Agency on Aging; Advantage Home Health; Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness, Home Health, and Wound Center; Coblentz Chocolates; Critchfield, Critchfield & Johnston attorneys; Crossroads Hospice; Everence; First UCC of Sugarcreek; Holmes County District Public Library; Home Is Where the Heart Is Home Care; Love Inc.; Ohio’s Hospice; Smith Varns Funeral Home; SpringHaven Counseling; Society for Equal Access; SSIP Insurance Partners; Vibrant Living at Twin City Medical Center; and the Walnut Hills Therapy Department.

The event is free and open to individuals of all ages. A balloon artist will provide some additional fun.

Transportation between stops will be provided, and lots of door prizes will be awarded.

“We encourage everyone to enter the Walnut Hills campus at the assisted living entrance at 4770 Olde Pump St.,” Miller said. “One of our friendly team members will be at the welcome tent at that entrance to greet you and give you a tour map and a door prize entry slip.”

Walnut Hills is located on Olde Pump Street in Walnut Creek. For more information call 330-893-3200.
