Mental and substance-use disorders for Wayne and Holmes counties must be addressed immediately, according to Judy Wortham Wood, executive director of the Mental Health and Recovery Board.

“It is critical that people experiencing mental and substance-use disorders receive the support they need,” Wood said. “The reality is that behavioral health is essential to health, prevention works, treatment is effective and people recover.”

As the effects of COVID-19 are faced, it is important to acknowledge the increased stress many are feeling. Treatment is available. Local funded partner agencies are available to help. Visit www.whmhrb.org to learn more about Anazao Community Partners, Catholic Charities, NAMI Wayne/Holmes, OneEighty and The Counseling Center. If you or a loved one are experiencing a mental-health crisis, call 330-264-9029 to reach the confidential local crisis line.

Continue to help spread the word about available treatment options. The MHRB’s goal this month is to increase awareness of mental and substance-use disorders, celebrate individuals in long-term recovery, and acknowledge the work of first responders who are first on the scene to assist those experiencing a mental-health crisis and those professionals who work in prevention, treatment and recovery support services.

The Mental Health and Recovery Board of Wayne and Holmes Counties provides leadership, support and funding to community partners and agencies in the delivery of mental health and addiction prevention, treatment, and recovery services. Its work promotes wellness for all community members while ensuring access to a continuum of high-quality, recovery-oriented mental health and addiction prevention, treatment, and support services.
