Marketplaces using www.healthcare.gov will make a special enrollment period available to all Marketplace-eligible consumers who are submitting a new application or updating an existing application through May 15.

In accordance with the executive order President Joe Biden issued on Jan. 28, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services determined the COVID-19 emergency presents exceptional circumstances for consumers in accessing health insurance and has therefore provided the public with an SEP for individuals and families to apply and enroll in the coverage they need.

Consumers will be able to access the application for Marketplace health coverage through a variety of channels including www.healthcare.gov, the Marketplace call center at 1-800-318-2596 and/or direct enrollment channels.

Personalized one-on-one help will be available to the public at no cost through the Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured. At the clinic an assister can provide application assistance and education from start to finish, guiding individuals through the Marketplace portal including helping them complete eligibility and enrollment forms. The assister can provide healthcare information and education to make it accessible and understandable.

Consumers will have 30 days after they submit their application to select a plan. Consumers who are eligible and enroll through this special enrollment option will be able to select a plan with coverage that starts prospectively the first of the month after plan selection. Also, current enrollees will be able to change to any available plan in their area without restrictions, as this SEP is not solely limited to individuals who are new enrollees.

It is not too late to find health coverage for 2021. For information about accessing the Tuscarawas Clinic for the Working Uninsured services, call 330-364-1853 Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The clinic is located at 420 S. Reeves Ave., Suite D, Dover.
