Cure the winter blues by learning something new and having fun at two upcoming events. Grab a friend and plan to attend the fourth annual Wellness, Holistic, Alternative Treatment and Therapy Fair on Friday, March 14 from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, March 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Secrest Welcome & Education Center, 2122 Williams Road, Wooster.

The $10 entry fee (age 10 and under free) includes all classes that will run on the hour and half-hour. In addition there will be 20 vendors, a self-guided self-care experience, Reiki, an art activity, therapy dogs, and a sound bath where a person is bathed in vibrations and frequencies created from sounds using gongs, bowls, chimes and more. Studies show there are many health benefits such as lowering blood pressure, alleviating stress and improving sleep. There also will be food trucks and more.

Brooke Winkler is the event organizer and owner of Engaging the Spirit.

“There will be presentations on an array of topics including The Four Pillars of Alzheimer’s Prevention, Hypnotherapy for Healing, Braintap and Balancing the Central Nervous System, Self-Care Strategies, The Powerful Benefits of Superoxide Dismutase Enzyme, The Benefits of Honey and Hive Products, and several more,” Winkler said. “Come and take a yoga class and learn to belly dance. There will be a belly dance performance Saturday at noon.”

A number of food and health vendors will be on site both days.

“I developed the inaugural fair to bring awareness to the different modalities of healing options that are available outside of traditional medicine,” Winkler said. “I spent the first 20 years of my career as a mental health therapist but always sensed there was more of a connection between the mind, body and spirit.

“On my own healing journey through irritable bowel syndrome, I delved into what was causing the issue. After I experienced Reiki, it started my journey of learning, studying and embodying holistic healing methods including Reiki, yoga, meditation, laughter, hypnotherapy, integrative wellness coaching and the connection of spiritual wellness. I offer coaching, yoga classes, Reiki sessions and training, hypnotherapy, belly dance classes, spiritual consultation and development, and an array of workshops.”

Leading up to the WHATT Fair will be the first monthly meeting of a new group called Finding Balance with Whole-istic Wellness on Tuesday, March 11 from 5:30-8 p.m. at The Connection Conference & Event Center, 1034 Country Club Drive, Wooster. For $10 participants can network with like-minded people and listen to a featured speaker every month, along with demonstrations, refreshments and more.

The speaker for March is going to be Dianna Stair, Wellness Center director of Westview Healthy Living, which offers many different services that cover aspects of holistic health such as exercise, talk therapy, massage, Reiki and sound therapy.

“She will also be giving tours of the facility that include an exercise room and therapy pool,” said Nena Holmes, Finding Balance with Whole-istic Wellness club organizer.

Holmes is a yoga teacher who also teaches a variety of exercise classes including Aqua Silver Sneakers Splash, Aqua Dance, Silver Sneakers Classic and Silver Sneakers Stability. She’s certified in Silver Sneakers and is a certified yoga and Reiki instructor.

“It’s my hope for the club to bring people together in a comfortable and safe space to help them learn about different aspects of holistic wellness,” Holmes said. “It should be a great time to learn and express ideas, thoughts and experiences with other like-minded individuals.”
