The Wayne County Health Department in asking people who are eligible to register for groups 1C and 2 to register with other vaccine providers. The registry shared between the Wayne County Health Department, Wooster Community Hospital and Aultman Orrville Hospital still has a backlog of 1B (65 and up) eligible residents and that may take a few more weeks to get through.

“We are encouraged to see an increase in vaccine coming from the state. But we want to make sure we are taking care of those folks 65 and up and other folks who are 1B eligible who have been patient,” said Nick Cascarelli, Wayne County Health Commissioner. “We also don’t want to see those who are eligible wait so we are encouraging them to get vaccinated with other vaccine providers now if they have appointments available.”

If you need assistance with registering with a vaccine provider, you can call the United Way of Holmes and Wayne County WHIRE line at 330-263‐6363.

Phase 1C and Phase 2 eligibility

In response to this significant increase in the amount of vaccine coming into Ohio, Gov. DeWine earlier this week outlined the individuals who are included in Phase 1C and Phase 2 of Ohio's vaccination plan which went into effect on March 4.

Phase 1C includes approximately 246,000 eligible Ohioans with certain occupations and with certain medical conditions not addressed in previous phases. Medical conditions include Type 1 diabetes, pregnant women, bone marrow transplant recipients and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

The occupations include Childcare Services which covers administrators, lead and assistant teachers, and substitutes who are enrolled in Ohio’s Professional Registry who are currently working in open childcare and pre‐kindergarten programs. This also includes licensing specialists employed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services or county job and family services agencies.

This does not include parent volunteers, board members, or owners/administrators that do not provide in‐classroom supports.

It also includes:

—Funeral services. This would include embalmers/morticians, funeral home directors, crematory operators, and apprentices.

—Law enforcement and corrections officers. This would include police officers; sheriff’s deputies; Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers; other state or federal enforcement officers such as Ohio Department of Natural Resource enforcement staff, pharmacy board investigators, BCI agents, state fire marshal investigators, federal transportation security officers, and other federal law enforcement officers who do not have access to vaccination from federal sources.

Phase 2

Because the risk of more severe reactions and outcomes of COVID‐19 increase with age, Phase 2 will open vaccinations based on age, beginning with Ohioans ages 60 and older. This group includes approximately 695,000 eligible Ohioans.
