Recently, the Clark Community Center board members and other community members of Clark welcomed Christmas with a tree-lighting ceremony at the Clark Community Center, but that wasn’t the only reason to celebrate.

One thing the board has really focused on since its inception has been the honoring of area community members who have meant a great deal to the growth of the center, and the board celebrated another one of those people who have been an integral part of the center’s success.

On Sunday, Nov. 28 at the tree-lighting ceremony in Clark, the Clark Community Center Board of Directors presented a Henry Golden Boy EMS Tribute Edition .22 S/L/R rifle to Millersburg resident Jim Weigand.

Weigand worked in the area as an electrician and served as both a fireman and paramedic for 48 years, from 1974-2021 when he retired. Weigand also played an integral role in the advancement of the Clark Community Center since it began. He provided technical help on the grounds in addition to support in the Clark community.

Weigand began work at Holmes Fire District #1 when he turned 18 years old, where he served as a volunteer. Later, Weigand would go on to serve as an officer and fire chief. Although he officially retired in October of this year, he plans to stay on as a volunteer, bringing things full circle. He also worked for multiple decades as an electrician at Millersburg Electric and has used his skills to promote and assist the Clark community on many occasions.

“Whether it’s fixing equipment in the community center or bringing the squad down on Halloween to hand out candy bars, Jim is a tremendous asset to the community, and the Clark Community Center is grateful for his continued support,” said Jes McConville, Clark Community Center treasurer and secretary, who also happens to be Weigand’s daughter.

The gift was presented to Weigand in recognition for his many years of service to the community, and the Clark Community Center looks forward to working with him in the future.

As the celebration of one ceremony passes, another looms ahead. CCC will present Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 9-11 a.m. at the center located at 1390 state Route 83 in Clark.

Families are invited to a breakfast that includes homemade cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit and hot chocolate. Kids can decorate their own ornaments and write a wish-list letter to Santa. Elf Jes will read “Bears Stay Up for Christmas,” and the kids can meet Old Saint Nick.
