The Holmes County Chamber of Commerce will host a roundtable event on behalf of Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague on Jan. 27.

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Berlin and will be an opportunity to discuss the agriculture industry in Ohio and the challenges agribusinesses face. The primary goal of the event is to distribute information regarding the Ag-LINK program and other economic-development programs available through the treasurer’s office.

According to the state treasurer’s website, “Every year before the planting season, many Ohio farm operators and other agriculture businesses seek to finance their operating costs for feed, seed, fertilizer and fuel. Ag-LINK can help offset the impact of these up-front costs by providing an interest-rate reduction on agriculture-business operation loans at eligible financial institutions (includes farm credit lenders). Agriculture is one of Ohio’s most important industries. It employs one-in-eight Ohioans and pumps over $124 billion into our economy each year. It is important that Ohio farm operators and agriculture businesses receive the help they need to offset the risks of variable operating costs, unpredictable weather and shifts in market prices.”

The event is open to members of the Holmes County agriculture community, participating lenders and local elected officials. The event also will be supported by other local agriculture organizations.

There is no charge to attend, but a reservation is required for planning purposes. Call 330-674-3975 or email info@holmescountychamber.com with questions or to reserve space.
