Summer will see some artistic fun during several evenings in Berlin, thanks to a concerted effort with the community and Holmes Center for the Arts.

Holmes Center for the Arts, the Holmes County Library and the Berlin Main Street Merchants will host a summer arts series at Berlin Park, thanks to local sponsors and funding provided by the Ohio Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Kicking the summer off is “Dancing Under the Stars” June 17-18, featuring three children’s stories told through dance. “Cinderella,” “Thumbelina” and the “Selkies” will be featured during this family series. Local food trucks will be present for the opening of the park at 6 p.m., followed by a free children’s hour at 7:15 p.m. with yard games, crafts and story time hosted by the Holmes County Library.

Before the start of the games and activities, patrons are invited to grab a partner for a swing dancing class taught by HCA faculty on stage, free with the purchase of a show ticket. After the activities have commenced and as the stars begin to appear around 8:30 p.m., the show will begin.

With a children’s story theme in mind, three guest choreographers were invited to HCA to work with local artists and students.

“People will be delighted as these stories come to life,” said Holley Johnson, executive director at HCA.

Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and join the HCA crew and actors for “Dancing Under the Stars.”

Tickets for the evening are $5 for children age 12 and under and $10 for adults if ordered in advance. Tickets are $15 if purchased at the gate.

Stay tuned for more information on “Theatre Under the Stars” July 8-9 and “Music Under the Stars” Aug. 5-6.
