Summer Crisis Program offered
The Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland Community Action Commission’s Summer Crisis Program assists households with a resident age 60 and older or households that can provide physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member’s health.
The Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland Community Action Commission’s Summer Crisis Program is underway.
This program will assist households with a resident age 60 and older or households that can provide physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member’s health. Conditions can include lung disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or asthma.
Benefits may include payment toward their electric bill or assistance applied toward central air-conditioning repair costs: a benefit of utility assistance of one payment for the current electric bill, total amount due, first PIPP Plus enrollment, utility account deposit, transfer of service or disconnect fees.
Benefit assistance is available up to $300 for customers of regulated utilities and up to $500 for customers on unregulated utilities. Qualifying households also may be eligible for an air-conditioner and/or fan if the household has not received this benefit in the past three years. PIPP customers are not eligible for utility assistance.
Households do not have to be in disconnect status; however, those in disconnect status must receive utility assistance before additional benefits will be considered and cannot exceed the total maximum allowable benefit.
Income documentation must be presented for all household members 18 or older.
Income guidelines are based at 175 percent of the Federal Poverty Level and are as follows:
Household size of one may earn up to $21,857.50, household of two $29,592.50, household of three $37,327.50, household of four $45,062.50, household of five $52,797.50 and household of six $60,532.50. For larger households add $7,735 per member. Income also may be calculated using the past 30 days, whichever benefits the client.
Other documentation also is required including the household electric and gas bills so that a State HEAP application can be generated for additional benefits, proof of disability if disabled, physicians statement if a medical condition exists, co-payment documentation if the maximum benefit is not sufficient (this must be paid before application can be completed), proof of citizenship, and Social Security numbers for all household members.
