Woods golfs with the girls, places runner-up at Mapleton

Kenzie Woods has competed with the boys all fall, but her recent venture into a girls tournament saw the West Holmes talent earn a runner-up medalist honor.

                        

At the Mapleton Girls Golf Invitational, West Holmes’ Kenzie Woods fired off an 88 to grab runner-up medalist honors as she ventured outside of the boys competition in which she has participated all fall.

The Garaway Pirates continued to show the ultimate consistency, which in turn led to a 156-188 win over Ridgewood at River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette. In improving to 7-1 in Inter-Valley Conference play, Charles Beachy fired an even-par score of 36 while Trace Gibson and Carter Miller each carded 39s. Nick Maust capped off the scoring with a 42, and the Pirates are now 8-2 overall.

Garaway continued to play consistent golf by placing fourth out of 14 teams at the Generals Cup at Wooster Country Club. Garaway’s 328 trailed only the strong team efforts of champion Ashland (309), Strongsville (313) and Lake (319).

Gibson led the Pirates with a 76, with Beachy right behind at 77. Caleb Meek added an 86 while Emmet Royer shot an 89.

Hiland cruised to victory in a 147-190 win over Tuscarawas Central Catholic. Carter Mishler remained hot, firing a 33, while Nathan Kline added a 37, Brookston Hummel carded a 38 and Lucas Yoder added a 39 for the Hawks.

Hunter Ellis fired a 38 that included an eagle to lead West Holmes to a 161-180 win over Mansfield Madison. Brody Allen came in strong at 39 while Grady Toye added a 41 and Trey Baker pitched in with a 43.
