Reader lobbies lawmakers to increase taxes on tobacco

This week I traveled to Columbus to represent cancer patients and survivors from Wooster to call on the state legislature to make cancer a top priority. I joined more than 90 American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network volunteers and staff from across the state to ask lawmakers in Ohio to support increasing tobacco taxes, increasing tobacco cessation and prevention funding, maintaining funding for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Project, and supporting palliative care legislation.
I met with Rep. Scott Wiggam and a staff member of Sen. Frank LaRose and made it clear Ohios legislature needs to put partisanship aside on behalf of the nearly 68,180 Ohioans who will be diagnosed with cancer this year and the 25,430 who will ultimately die from the disease.
We let our lawmakers know volunteers across the state are counting on them to take a stand against cancer by supporting what works to prevent it. Its time to end this devastating disease as we know it.
