Cause for Paws is a local event that is collectively arranged in an effort to benefit the animals served by the Tuscarawas County Humane Society.

This year marks the 10th annual event, which will be held at Breitenbach Wine Cellars Tool Shed for the first time on Saturday, March 3 at 6 p.m.

“This is our biggest fundraiser,” said Ashley Bryant, fundraising chair and TCHS board member. “It raises our operational costs for the rest of the year.”

The Humane Society receives no local or state funding and relies solely on grants and donations.

In addition to caring for dogs, cats and other abused, neglected and abandoned animals while they await adoption, TCHS also supports a Rascal Unit, a mobile veterinary care unit that offers low-cost spay and neuter services.

Last year TCHS had 1,045 adoptions, which included two birds, 425 cats, one chinchilla, 594 dogs, two ferrets, two goats, two guinea pigs, four horses, five pigs, six rabbits and two rats.

According to Bryant, the TCHS’s goal is to raise $85,000, which is up from last year’s $81,000. “In 10 years we’ve raised over a half a million dollars,” Bryant said.

Tickets for Cause for Paws are $50 and can be purchased at TCHS, 1432 Tall Timber Road NE in New Philadelphia; Paul’s Body Shop, 219 W. Front St. in Dover; or Petz Place, 118 Commercial Ave. SW in New Philadelphia.

Each ticket includes a bid number for the auction, dinner, an appetizer and dessert.

Breitenbach Wine Cellars wine and Lockport Brewery craft beer will be available for purchase.

With only a limited number of tickets remaining, Bryant suggests they be purchased as early as possible because the event sells out every year.

In addition to the silent and live auction, there will be raffles and grab bags for $10 each that include T-shirts along with $50 and $100 gift cards.

“Everything is donated by individuals and local businesses from the grab-bag items to the center pieces,” Bryant said.

Local wedding floral designer Cortney Goodwin has donated all the centerpieces, and all desserts have been donated by Sweeties Place of Bolivar.

Acoustic performer Ren will provide live music, and artist Jerry King will be on hand to create animal cartoons.

“We also have an adoption center there where supporters can adopt stuffed animals to be entered in to win a basket of goodies,” Bryant said.

To purchase items at the event, cash, check and credit cards are accepted. Checks should be made payable to Cause for Paws in the memo line for sponsorship and donations.

The organization is still looking for those willing to sponsor as a Guardian Paw, $2,500; Platinum Paw, $1,000; Gold Paw, $500; Silver Paw, $250; or Bronze Paw, $100.

The premium event sponsorship, Guardian Paw, includes reserved seating, eight gold tickets, and company logo in the event program and on any literature going out for next year’s event. Gold tickets allow for early access and VIP early checkout.

Cause for Paws Guardian Paw sponsors include Benchmark Construction, Denney Plastics Machining, Dover Hydraulics, Geib Funeral, Gemini Fiber and MSI.

Benson’s Catering, Cronenbaugh Auction Service Ltd. and others have been instrumental in making Cause for Paws a success.
