Armstrong to greet community at YMCA
The Tuscarawas County YMCA announced a meet and greet with Olympic gold/silver medalist Hunter Armstrong on Saturday, Aug. 17 from noon to 4 p.m. in the YMCA gymnasium. It will include photo opportunities, autographs and a Q-and-A session with Armstrong.
Armstrong began his swimming career with the YMCA Silver Streaks swim team. His dedication and talent led to him becoming a standout swimmer for Dover High School and later for Ohio State University. Armstrong's hard work culminated in winning a gold medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. This year while competing in Paris, Hunter struck gold in the men's 4x100 freestyle relay and silver in the men's 4x100 medley relay.
“We are incredibly proud of Hunter's accomplishments and excited to welcome him back to where his journey began,” said Stacy Harlan, aquatics director at the Tuscarawas County YMCA. “This event is a unique opportunity for our community to celebrate his success and gain insights from his experiences.”
The meet and greet is a free event. Attendees will have the chance to hear firsthand about Hunter's journey from local swimmer to Olympic champion and ask questions about his experiences and future aspirations. Armstrong will appear with his family and Silver Streaks/Dover High School coach Brenda Wherley.
“We hope this event will inspire our young swimmers and community members to pursue their dreams with the same passion and determination that Hunter has shown throughout his career,” Wherley said.
