Christian Children’s Home of Ohio announced the kickoff of its capital campaign, The Promise Project.

The campaign hopes to raise $2.1 million to support the construction of the Children’s Leadership and Recreation Center, which will include a middle school-size gymnasium, classrooms, commercial kitchen and cafeteria along with vital renovations to residential cottages and land/facility purchases for future agency expansion.

The Promise Project and the building of the Children’s Leadership and Recreation Center will help Christian Children’s Home of Ohio fulfill its promise to its young residents by providing updated space for children to attend classes, eat nutritious meals and enjoy the benefits of therapeutic play.

Research links healthy eating habits to better academic performance, increased cognitive function and improved mood. Studies also indicate play and games can improve executive function, working memory and self-control in children with behavioral issues.

“Unfortunately more and more kids find themselves in crisis today,” honorary campaign chair Robin Swoboda said. “There are children throughout our communities who have suffered abuse, neglect and trauma that threaten to impede their ability to graduate from school, hold a steady job, maintain relationships and build families of their own. I support Christian Children’s Home of Ohio and this important work. I ask that you take a moment of your time to listen to their inspiring vision and consider how you can help The Promise Project become a life-changing reality.”

CCHO relies on the kindness of individual donors, generous local businesses, supporting churches, grants and foundations. “Over $1 million in financial gifts/pledges have been received, but much more is needed to reach the goal,” President/CEO Kevin Hewitt said. “The time is right for this project, and the need is great, but we cannot do this without you.”
