Wayne County auditor Jarra Underwood, along with the team of Wayne County elected officials, recently announced Wayne County has earned a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 26th consecutive year from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

The GFOA established the COA in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure. This certificate then recognizes individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.

“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” the GFOA said.

The annual comprehensive report is a team effort involving all departments within Wayne County.

“This accomplishment would not be possible to attain without the fiscal integrity and dedication of all government officials of the county,” Underwood said.

MacKenzie Taylor is the information officer for the Wayne County auditor.
