Frautschy appointed as agent to work with Skyline School
Village Solicitor Doug Frautschy was appointed as agent for the Village of Sugarcreek to work with Skyline School officials to annex 3.2 acres of land into the village. Plans are to construct an Amish school off Skyline Drive in Sugarcreek.
The 34th annual Fabulous ‘50s Fling will be held Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 downtown and will be held rain or shine. On June 6 a cruise-in will be held with Spikeman DJ from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
On June 7 registration for vehicles will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The judging of the vehicles will be announced at 4 p.m. The musical group the BelAirs will perform June 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. behind the fire station. The fire department will hold a chicken barbecue on June 7 beginning at 11 a.m. The cost is by donation. A large tent will be erected, and other food will be offered at a reasonable cost.
Council also did the following:
—Heard a Gateway 2007 loan of $56,409 has been paid in full. The village has been making annual payments and agreed to pay off the loan.
—Learned phase one has been completed on Zurich Street. Council member Matt Miller and Mick Fanning were thanked for volunteering their time at the site. Council learned there was no base under the asphalt. That has been corrected.
—Thanked the Garaway industrial tech class for constructing two picnic tables for the village. Materials were furnished by the village.
—Heard Dr. Kevin Miller will not accept payment for serving as medical director for the village.
—Heard the damaged guardrail on Ohio 39 is expected to be repaired this week.
—Discussed placing a street light at Shane and Troyer drives. It was reported there are already several street lights in the area, and the village usually does not install street lights in alleys. No action was taken.
—Learned the second water tower will be drained and repairs will be made at the site near McDonald’s, beginning next week.
—Heard a meeting will be scheduled with Quicksall and Associates of New Philadelphia, adding sleeping quarters for the firefighters at the fire station.
—Heard a complaint about tall grass at 140 Mill St. NW, 310 Mill St. SW and an apartment complex on Zurich Street.
—Passed an ordinance vacating an unopened alley between lots 139 and 140 in the village.
—Held the first reading of an ordinance vacating two unopened alleys in the Andrew C. Miller allotment.
Other information
Council thanked Garaway students for volunteering their time to clean up around the village. They added landscaping, went to Winlkepleck Grove to do cleanup work and also at the fire station.
The new ambulance for the fire department is expected to arrive in June.
The next meeting will be June 2 at 7 p.m. The streets, water and sewer committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. to discuss water rates. Meetings are held at 410 S. Broadway in Sugarcreek on the first and third Monday at 7 p.m.
