Jim Russell Watson, age 81 of New Philadelphia, died Monday, May 14, 2018, in Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia.

A son of the late Russell and Sarah (Benedum) Watson, Jim was born April 13, 1937, in Dover.

Jim graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1955 and retired from Canton Hotel & Restaurant Supply. He was an avid golfer, and during his younger years he enjoyed bowling. He also enjoyed traveling and was especially fond of visiting the beach and cruises.

Jim is survived by his wife, Carol (Stephan) Watson, whom he married on June 23, 1957; his children, Joel (Lisa) Watson of New Philadelphia, Scott (Donna) Watson of Tipp City, Ohio, and Lisa (Ken) Watson Davis of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Brant (Amanda) Watson of North Olmstead, Ohio, Blair Watson Morwick of Fishers, Indiana, and Emma Davis of New Philadelphia; his great-granddaughter, Nora Watson Morwick; his sister, Peggy (Kenny) Shear of New Philadelphia; and nieces and nephews. He also is survived by his beloved dog, Maggie.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Betty Watson.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. The family will receive guests on Thursday, May 17 from 6-7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. A memorial service celebrating Jim’s life will follow in the funeral home at 7 p.m.
