Blake Nathan, age 15 of Dover, graduated July 1 from the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Program in Great Lakes Illinois in a class of 302 cadets from throughout the nation.

USNSC is a national youth leadership-development organization that promotes interest and skill in naval disciplines while instilling strong moral character and life skills through leadership and technical programs modeled after the Navy's professional-development system.

U.S. Naval Sea Cadets must attend a mandatory 10-day recruit training session. These training sessions are taught at the Navy’s Recruit Training Command, at other naval bases or stations, and at regional recruit training sites using other military host resources.

The curriculum of this training is approved by the U.S. Navy and standardized at all training sites. Cadets receive 106 hours of instruction with a focus on the Navy’s core values of honor, courage and commitment. Both tone and tenor of instruction are modeled after the Navy’s recruit training.

Blake earned E2 rank and was awarded a marksmanship award for sharpshooter. Additionally he was named section leader for his Division 003.

Blake resides in Dover with his parents Mark and Kimberly and attends Dover High School. He is a member of the Dover football team, Celtic Elite and Canton Maddog rugby teams, and the YMCA Youth Leaders Program. He plans to pursue a career in the military.
