Marion Miller informed Sugarcreek Council about a new school expected to be constructed on 3.2 acres on Skyline Drive during the Feb. 10 council meeting and that there’s interest in installing village water and service.

Solicitor Doug Frautschy said the first step will be to ask Skyline, a business, if they will grant an easement either to Miler Avenue or to the village to cross their land for access to the lift station. If granted, the lot will need to be annexed into the village, and council can authorize the solicitor to handle the annexation.

Nate Festi, sewer superintendent, will be consulted to determine the best way to handle the sanitary sewer line and pumping, due to the hills in that area. Council member Matt Miller will set a committee meeting to coincide with the next regular meeting at a date to be determined.

In another matter Mayor Walt Wilson has met with Tom Mueller, zoning inspector, and is reminding all residents there are zoning laws in effect for the village. In 2024 there were some issues with construction completed prior to applying for a permit. According to Wilson, this issue causes problems and wants to avoid problems moving forward. Wilson urges all residents to inquire about permits prior to any construction.

Council also did the following:

—Learned Village Administrator Kevin Kaser will contact the vendors to schedule the acrylic coating on the pickleball courts and installing fence.

—Heard a question was asked at the Jan. 27 meeting requiring a medical director for the village. Wilson suggested a safety committee meeting with Dr. Joshua Blanton, current medical director at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital. The fire department wants to begin supplying and carrying blood on ambulances. Cody Shetler, EMS captain, was able to answer many questions and explained the need for protocols to be written for the department. A meeting will be scheduled with Blanton as soon as possible.

—Set a parks and recreation committee meeting for March 3 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss the bandstand at Winklepleck Grove and to discuss the condition of the bandstand.

—Heard Garaway High has scheduled community service for May 9. They are looking for projects to do that day. Wilson will contact the school with a list of suggested projects.

Other information

The fire department will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner on Feb. 22 from 4-7 p.m. at the fire station. Spaghetti, meatballs, and a salad and dessert bar are available. The cost is a donation.

The next February meeting has not yet been determined.
