Need to take a quick break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life?

There may be no better way to slow down than paying a visit to the Holmes County Board of Developmental Disabilities, where a free cup of iced tea or lemonade and visit with the students at the Holmes County Board of Developmental Disabilities await.

Just a quick stop at the front door for a few words with the individuals and staff while waiting for a refreshing cup of your favorite beverage might be exactly what puts some pep back in your step for the day.

The next drive-thru Afternoon Drink Stop at Northside Church on state Route 83 on the north side of Millersburg will be Wednesday, April 23 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and will feature iced tea, lemonade and popcorn.

The staff at HCBDD and the students would like to extend a warm welcome to anyone and everyone who would like to take advantage of that opportunity during the Holmes County Board of Developmental Disabilities Afternoon Drink Stop.

According to Kim Miller of HCBDD, the idea behind this event was to create a neat experience for those who visit as well as a valuable and fun one for their students because it creates meaningful interaction that helps them grow and develop their social skills.

Those who stop by can stay in their car while the students come up and take their order and then deliver it to them, or they can park and stay and visit while they get and enjoy their drink.

The opportunity to take orders and thank customers gives some of the students a chance to utilize their communication devices, which Miller said is excellent practice for them.

Miller said while the drinks are free, if anyone wants to donate to the event, they may do so, and anyone who does will be greeted with big smiles and much gratitude by the students.

She went on to say that the students love to connect with anyone and everyone.

Northside Church is located at 1207 Wooster Rd. in Millersburg.
